How this model actually works
You buy licences, then assign them: a user licence to a person, a device licence to a machine running the agent. A licence can be released and reassigned, cancelled, or resumed before the cancellation takes effect. One licence, one holder. A user licence belongs to one person and a device licence to one machine — the database enforces it. Nobody is half-licensed and nothing is double-paid. The user licence price depends on the plan. The device licence price does not — the agent costs the same whichever plan you are on. Licence the machines you want reporting and leave the rest. You pay for what you assign, not for the size of your estate. People can ask for a licence from inside the product, so the request reaches whoever manages licences rather than an inbox. A plan change shows what it costs before you confirm, and is prorated when applied. An estimate of your next invoice sits in the product, itemized by user-licence and device-licence line.
Terms
- Prices exclude tax. Billed monthly, or on a twelve-month commitment at the lower rate.
- The twelve-month commitment runs as a fixed term that rolls into the next one, and can be cancelled once a window opens at the start of the term’s final month. Month-to-month has no such window.
- Moving to a smaller plan is not a self-serve action today — the plan list says so rather than failing at checkout.
- Payment, invoicing and tax are Stripe's. The product receives Stripe's webhooks — signature-verified and recorded — so subscription, invoice and payment state follows Stripe rather than drifting from it.
Questions
About what you actually pay.
How is it priced?
Two licences, both monthly. A user licence for each person using the product, priced by the plan you are on — the plan also decides which capabilities are switched on. And a device licence for each machine running the agent, priced the same on every plan. You buy the quantity you need and assign them. You choose monthly billing or a twelve-month commitment.
Do we pay for the agent if we don’t deploy it?
No. Device licences are bought separately and assigned per machine. Licence the machines you want reporting and leave the rest — you pay for what you assign.
Does the agent cost more on a bigger plan?
No. The device licence price is the same on every plan. Only the user licence price moves with the plan.
What happens when someone leaves?
Release their licence and give it to someone else. A licence is not tied to a person for good — it is yours to reassign. If you no longer need it, cancel it, and you can resume it before the cancellation takes effect.
How do people get access?
Someone who manages licences assigns one. A person without a licence can request access from inside the product, so the request reaches the right person rather than sitting in an inbox.
Can we change plan, or cancel?
A plan change is previewed before you confirm and prorated when applied. On month-to-month you can cancel at any time. On a twelve-month commitment the term stands until a cancellation window opens at the start of its final month, after which it renews into the next term. Moving to a smaller plan is not a self-serve action today.
In pilot
Ask about the pilot.
Intune tells you a device is enrolled, encrypted and compliant. It does not tell you which local administrator accounts exist on it, what software was installed outside your Intune deployments, or how the machine is really configured. And it does not let a first-line helpdesk agent reset a password or wipe a lost laptop without rights over your whole tenant. Core answers both.
